Privacy Policy — Fambient

1. Introduction

Fambient ("the app," "we," "our," or "us") is a family household management app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using Fambient, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

We collect only what is necessary to make the app work. We do not sell your data to anyone.

2. Information We Collect

When you use Fambient, we collect and store the following:

Account information

  • Email address and password — used to create and secure your account. Your password is encrypted and never stored in readable form.

Profile information

  • Display name — a name or label used to identify you within your family group in the app. This does not need to be your real name.
  • Relationship label (optional) — a descriptor such as "Mom" or "Dad" shown to family members.
  • Profile photo (optional) — an image you choose to represent yourself.
  • Profile color (optional) — a color preference for personalizing your profile display.

Family information

  • Family display name (optional) — a chosen label for your family group (e.g. "The Smiths" or "Our House") — this is not required to be a last name.
  • Family photo (optional) — an image representing your family group.

Device information

  • Push notification tokens — used to deliver notifications about activity within your family group, such as task updates, reminders, and other in-app events. You can disable these at any time in your device settings.

3. Device Permissions

Fambient may request the following device permissions:

  • Camera — accessed only when you choose to take a photo for your profile or family. We do not access your camera passively or without your action.
  • Photo Library — accessed only when you choose to upload a photo from your device.
  • Push Notifications — used to send you reminders and updates related to your household. You can disable these at any time in your device settings.

Regarding photo metadata: All photos are processed on-device before upload. EXIF metadata — including any GPS location data embedded in photos taken with your camera — is stripped during this process and is never stored on our servers.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide and improve the Fambient experience:

  • Authenticating your account and keeping it secure
  • Displaying your name, photo, and profile details to your family members within the app
  • Sending push notifications you have opted into
  • Maintaining your family group and its members

We do not use your data for advertising, behavioral tracking, or any purpose beyond operating the app.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

Fambient uses the following third-party services to operate. Each has access only to the data necessary to perform their function:

  • Supabase — provides our database and authentication infrastructure. Your account and profile data is stored securely on Supabase servers.
  • Expo — used to deliver push notifications to your device.
  • Sentry — used for crash and error reporting to diagnose issues and improve stability.

We require that any third-party service we use provides the same or equivalent level of data protection described in this policy.

6. Crash & Diagnostic Reporting

To diagnose crashes and improve stability, Fambient uses Sentry, a third-party error-reporting service. When the app hits an error, we send a diagnostic report containing the error and its stack trace, your device model, operating-system version, and app version. These reports do not include your name, email, password, or any of the profile or family information you enter — they contain technical diagnostic data only. IP-address storage is disabled and we do not use these reports to identify or track you. Sentry processes this data on our behalf; see Sentry's privacy policy.

7. Children's Privacy

By creating an account on Fambient, you confirm you are at least 13 years old.

Fambient is a closed, invite-only system. Family members can only join via an invite code issued by the account holder, ensuring full control over who participates in their family group. Children cannot independently discover or join a family.

By creating an account and adding family members, the account holder confirms they have the legal authority or parental/guardian consent to enter information about any minors in their family group, and consents to that information being stored as described in this policy.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children independently or without appropriate consent. If you believe a child's information has been collected without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which employs industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We retain your data for as long as your account remains active.

When you request account deletion, your account is scheduled for permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period, during which you may cancel the deletion if you change your mind. After that period, your account and all associated data are permanently removed from our systems.

9. Your Rights

All users

  • You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • You may request correction of inaccurate data
  • You may request deletion of your account and all associated data directly within the app via the Delete Account option in your settings

California residents (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect about you and how it is used — outlined in Section 2 above
  • Request deletion of your personal information — available directly in the app via Delete Account in settings
  • Opt out of the sale of your personal information — we do not sell your information
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app. Your continued use of Fambient after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The date at the top of this page will always reflect when it was last revised.
